Divorce Lawyer and Chump
Katie is divorce lawyer AND a chump. Think those 2 things don't go together? Neither did Katie, who was completely stunned to discover her ex-FW's affair back in August of 2018.... followed by a 2nd D-Day on Easter Sunday of 2019 and a 3rd D-Day just two (2) weeks before the birth of her second son in May of 2019. Katie thought, that as a divorce attorney, her marriage was "affair proof" as they say in the Reconciliation Industry. Nope, anyone can be a chump.
Immediately following D-Day, Katie did all of the chumpy things. She read Divorce Busters by Michelle Weiner-Davis and State of Affairs by Esther Perel, apparently because she needed some more emotional abuse than what her FW was already providing. Katie went to all of the counselors - 5 marriage counselors in total, and at least 4 individual therapists, trying to save the sinking ship that was her marriage. Like I said, allllll of the chumpy things.
D-Day #3 was the final straw for Katie. That's when she discovered that her ex-FW had been using hookers for their entire relationship and marriage. Katie doesn't exactly remember when she first found out about CL, but she does clearly remember her ex-FW trying to steer her clear of CL because he thought CL was an "angry woman."
Well, thankfully, Katie DID find CL and CN, and took comfort in reading their stories. Even though Katie is a divorce lawyer, she was scared to leave her marriage and everything that came with navigating the legal system with 2 small children.
Eventually, Katie settled her divorce and custody matters. She is now happily divorced and living her best life. She found her mighty through the help of her counselor, friends, and new partner. She focused on her mental and physical health. In the summer of 2023, she rode her bike from Pittsburgh, PA, to Washington, D.C., to raise money for a hockey team of disabled veterans and to bring awareness to the epidemic of suicide in the veteran community. Katie serves on the boards of several non-profit organizations and coaches youth soccer. In her spare time, Katie works as a lawyer at her all female family law firm in Pittsburgh, PA.
Katie's experience has made her a better, more understanding, more empathetic attorney. Having faced the shit sandwich of divorcing a cheater, she has a newfound appreciation and admiration for the courage and strength that her clients have during some of the most challenging times in their lives. Katie hopes that she can use her personal experiences to help change the narrative like CL has done.
